About our Solid Wood Desks Range

A solid wood desk is built to last. Made from real timber such as oak and mango wood, it is stronger and longer lasting than most laminate or veneered desks, and it can be sanded and refinished if it is ever marked. Here you'll find solid oak computer desks, solid wood corner desks, storage desks and small solid wood desks.

We don't sell furniture ourselves. When you find a desk you like, click through to the retailer to check the latest price, stock, delivery charges and returns policy before you buy.

Solid wood or veneer

Solid wood is timber all the way through. Veneer is a thin layer of real wood over another board, and wood effect is a printed finish. Solid wood costs more but wears better and can be refinished.

Natural variation

Real wood has natural grain, knots and colour variation, so no two desks look quite the same. This is part of the appeal, but expect some difference from the product photos.

Weight and care

Solid wood desks are heavy, so check the weight if you need to move one. Dust regularly, wipe spills quickly and use a desk mat to protect the surface.

Frequently asked questions

Are solid wood desks better than MDF?

Solid wood is stronger, more durable and can be repaired, while MDF is lighter and cheaper but can swell if it gets wet and is harder to repair. For a desk you will use daily, solid wood generally lasts longer.

Do solid wood desks warp?

Wood moves slightly with changes in temperature and humidity, but a well-made, well-seasoned desk should stay flat. Keep it away from radiators and strong direct sunlight.

How do I care for a solid wood desk?

Dust and wipe with a soft slightly damp cloth, dry straight away and use coasters and a desk mat. Oil or wax the surface occasionally, following the maker's advice.

Is solid oak or mango wood better for a desk?

Both are hard wearing. Oak is lighter in tone with a pronounced grain, while mango wood is often darker and more varied in colour. Choose the one that suits your room.
